testimonials

"My son is really enjoying camp and loving it! He is so excited and proud of all the things he learns about. The update email you sent with the activities and pictures helps me ask the right questions and he opens up more and tells me about his day. This was exactly what we were looking for to get him engaged in learning about science."

"This has been their favorite camp all summer!"

"I think my husband and I are looking forward to this camp as much as [our daughter] is. I am afraid if I brought the girls back to the SED lab they will never want to leave. Because of the [Fun Physics] camp, we purchased a chess set and she is teaching me and her little sister. I got several games she talked about as well as a circuit activity she will receive for Christmas. SED is truly wonderful and I can't wait to experience more with both girls as they grow."

"The boys have loved the SED camps and the instructors. It has been a very positive experience!"

"[My daughter] is having a BLAST. She can't wait for next summer. This was the best camp ever!"

"Both of my boys had a blast in this week's camp. I was so thrilled to find my 9 year old finally found something so interesting about the periodic table that he can't stop talking about it when I pick him up. Though my oldest one skipped the first day and had to leave almost an hour early daily, he has been so excited about everything he learned in the class. I really appreciate the instructors' patience and also willingness to work with us on his schedule. Again. I am so glad that I had the opportunity to sign both of them up for these two courses this week."

"[My son] is looking forward to the camp - I don't know what yall did to him, but he loves SED!"

"We've tried to put him in engineering stuff before and it was boring, but this camp is awesome!"

WEEK 02 (Coppell 5-8) - BIO MYSTERIES

Five miles south of the bustling port called Hague in Holland lived a stocky bright-eyed man called Antony van Leeuwenhoek, who spent most of his time examining fabrics and grinding lenses. There was nothing to indicate that he was one the verge of world changing discovery. He did not finish his elementary school and spoke an ungrammatical Dutch. His only asset-curiosity, excellent eye sight and dexterous fingers. But when he magnified droplets from stagnant pond he was thrilled to see ‘very many little animals’ as he wrote to Royal Society in London, ‘some with paws, some with tails, darting in every direction’. This began his journey to discovery of invisible life, which he called animalcules. This camp recreates the Leeuwenhoek’s extraordinary and profound journey into the ‘world of little’ as students discover the teeming life surrounding us and within!

Forensic science is a vital part of the entire justice and regulatory system. Forensic scientists use of all available information to determine the facts and, subsequently, the truth. In a storyline apt for a novel, students first undergo forensic "training" by observing slides of common materials typically found by forensic investigators at a crime scene. Students are presented with a mock murder mystery and informed on the "evidence" collected at the crime scene. Students examine evidence, compare it to the testimonies of the suspects, and pinpoint the culprit.

SciTech zone provides great mix of science and technology experience. The camp starts with space, rockets and flights, a theme that has fascinated kids, scientists and commoners alike. Students learn about jet propulsion and NASA’s newer ion engines and propulsion system that allow orbiting multiple galactic bodies. Students hypothesize and build rockets and helicopters to test their predictions. Students then move on to harvest solar energy as they build their solar oven to learn absorption, insulation, heat loss and green house effect. Next, students are challenged to build a wire-loop game. The player holds the loop in one hand and attempts to guide it along the curved wire without touching the loop to the wire. The wire loop game has two challenges. In Challenge 1, students learn how electricity from a battery can be used to make sounds.
